Meet A.B. May

Our Story

A.B May was founded by Aleda and Bill Posladek, who purchased May Furnace Company in 1959. They renamed it A.B. May (“A” for Aleda and “B” for Bill) and set out with four trucks and a few employees to offer Kansas City exceptional home service. We've seen many changes in the past 60 years. In the mid-1970s, we pioneered one of the first homeowner warranties in the industry. Today, we help tens of thousands of Kansas City homeowners with a plan for home repairs through our Home Warranties and Gold, Silver, and Bronze Service Plans. Naturally, our family has grown over the years as well. Three generations of Posladeks have now worked together to earn trust from thousands of homeowners across the KC metro.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU

Household emergencies often come when you least expect them. We are staffed to handle those emergencies on nights, weekends, and holidays. Here's what you can expect when you call:

  • We answer our phones night and day. Don't hesitate to give us a call.
  • We promise a 24-hour response in an emergency* (see below for more information).
  • Most service calls are scheduled Monday through Friday 8-5. We will come after 5:00 to complete our scheduled appointments for the day.
  • We are available on the weekends and holidays if you need us.
  • If you need us after hours, a $50 after-hours fee may apply.
WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY HOME REPAIR?

We don’t charge extra fees for emergencies, but we do reserve the right to decide which problems require emergency service. Emergencies are typically issues that create an imminent threat to people or property. While we plan for extreme weather as much as possible, there may be some peak times in the year that we may not be able to respond to all emergencies in an ideal time frame. You matter to us, and we always do our best to respond as quickly as possible. Here are some examples of common emergencies we see:

  • Failed sump pumps
  • Power failures
  • Elderly or infants in extreme temperatures
  • Sewer backups
  • Damaging water leaks
  • Broken refrigerators

If you are experiencing an emergency home repair situation, please give us a call right away. We train to do things right, and we aim to exceed your expectations. It’s our pleasure to serve you. (Please note that we cannot send technicians out after dark to work on air conditioners.)

What to Expect

SCHEDULING

When a problem pops up in your home, give us a call day or night to schedule a service call. A customer service specialist will help determine which trade technician you need and set up an appointment window that works with your schedule.

On your appointment day, we will call when the technician is ready to head your way and confirm you will be there to meet him or her.

Please try to answer your phone, because we can’t send our technician to you until we get that confirmation. If you can’t be at home during the entire appointment window, you can ask our customer service specialist for a half-hour of lead time notice. We value your time and are happy to give you 30 minutes to drive home to meet us.

THE SERVICE CALL

We serve out of respect for you and your home. Our shoe covers protect your floors, and our technicians leave their work area as clean or cleaner than they found it.

When we arrive, our technicians will first want to look at the situation with you and fully understand the problem. We will also answer any questions you have about the issue.

Next, we will diagnose the problem and describe the options you have to repair it. We will explain your home warranty coverage, and give you upfront pricing (including your 15% discount ) for any repairs not included in your warranty. Also, we will never start work without your approval. We want to avoid surprises and exceed expectations while we get your home running smoothly again.

From Start to Finish

PAYMENT OPTIONS

We can solve most problems in one visit. Sometimes, we may need to order parts and come back to finish the job.

Once we complete the work, you can use a check or credit card to pay for your service fee (either $75 or $100, depending on your plan) and any other work you approved. If you are authorizing a repair for a rental property, you can also pay by phone with a customer service specialist.

TAKING CARE OF YOU

We value you, and we want to exceed your expectations. If you are ever unsatisfied with our work, please let us know so we can make it right for you.

Our home warranty is designed to save you time, stress, and money for problems that happen in every home. 96.6% of our customers said they would recommend us to friends and family. We promise to work hard to earn your trust, too.
